What Is It?

The Retention Scholarship is a fund established to help retain EKU students that have completed their freshman year and have committed to returning to EKU in the fall of the next year. Data has shown that if a student returns and completes their second year of college, their likelihood of graduating is significantly greater. With this in mind and in effort to encourage students to remain in school, a scholarship was established to provide awards to select students that meet the necessary criteria. We, as an Institution, care about the general welfare and needs of our students and want to recognize our student achievers.

How Much Is It For?

Individual awards will range from $350.00 to $1,000.00 per academic year.

Who Can Apply?

• Applicants must have entered EKU in either the summer or fall of the current year as first-time freshmen and must be returning the fall of the next year.
• Applicants must have a minimum of a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.
• Applicants must have earned a grade of a “C” or better in all coursework, including developmental courses.
• All applicants must be degree-seeking.

What Are the Requirements to Apply?

• Must submit a completed application.
• Must include with application one letter of recommendation from an EKU professor.
• Must include with application a one page, typed essay explaining how you will benefit with a degree from Eastern Kentucky University and, if awarded, how this scholarship will help you to fulfill this mission.

Recipients for this award will be selected by the University Scholarship Committee and will be notified in writing of the scholarship award.
