Joanne K. Glasser Endowed Diversity Leadership Scholarship

What Is It?

The purpose of this gift to Eastern Kentucky University was to create the Joanne K. Glasser Diversity Leadership Scholarship. The endowment will be established in recognition of Eastern Kentucky University’s commitment to inclusiveness and to further enhance, promote and celebrate diversity at Eastern Kentucky University.

How Much Is It For?

The scholarship will be awarded to two recipients. The recipients will receive a $500 award to be applied towards tuition. The award is renewable for a maximum of eight semesters of study towards a degree, provided the candidate maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Who Can Apply?

  • Be enrolled and maintain full-time enrollment during the academic semester for which the scholarship is awarded. The Diversity Leadership Scholarship is available to first-year undergraduate students as well as previously enrolled undergraduate students.
  • Meet all undergraduate admission requirements of the university
  • Maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Each recipient of the scholarship is expected to serve as an advocate for diversity on campus and in the wider community.
  • Demonstrated financial need will be taken into consideration in awarding the scholarship. Any demonstrated financial need should be specifically addressed in the cover letter.

What Are The Requirements To Apply?

  • Must submit a completed application.
  • Must provide two letters of reference from individuals familiar with the applicant’s scholarship, leadership, character, and respect for and commitment to diversity. (Candidates are responsible for ensuring that the individuals providing letters of reference give examples of the candidates’ commitment to diversity and address the candidate’s character and leadership.)
  • Must include a 250 to 500 word essay describing their commitment and involvement in activities that have helped them understand, respect, and celebrate diversity. Applicants may also include a description of what diversity means to them. The essay will be judged for grammar and writing ability as well as content.
